Anyone with Food Allergies?
It was our first time at Piada Italian Street Food.. Passing through on our way home to NW IN, we googled our way to a Piada in OH. With ALL my food allergies, including gluten, traveling is VERY Challenging and Stressful to find food that won't land me in anaphylaxis to an ICU (seriously 3x after eating out). I first call ahead and speak directly to venue chef. After speaking with Chef Jake, I was feeling confident and assured to pursue Piada. Chef Jake came forward personally to make my order. Being my first visit and extreme allergens, I observed the caution Chef took out clean tongs, serving from new ingredient containers obtained to avoid cross contamination, and freshly wiped down work area
He was knowledgable of ingredients, highest quality with specifics in texture and flavor. I requested new block of hard cheese to be grated for topping as shredded and pregrated cheeses have a touch of corn, potato, or gluten sourced additions used as cheese anti-caking agents. I was given choice of a lemon vinaigrette or oil/vinegar on the side. Upon the first taste, YUM! My Italian Grandpa would have loved it as it was a reflection of his cooking! He was an incredible gardener growing all vegetables down to the herbs in hot boxes. He was also a Phenomenal cook in Italy and shared his gift every love filled Family Sunday Dinner. Yes, he would have enjoyed Piada. Not only the food I waa impressed with, but also the caring staff. Not only could you feel an atmosphere of friendship amongst them all, it was also eminant how that respect flowed over to the customers as well as the upkeep of the restaurant itself. The art motif was very complimentary with a simplistic balance of venue personality. It was a great meal and outstanding experience for "fast food"~ such an impression that we inquired of franchise opportunities. Overall, my review as a Multi Food Allergen world traveler (and nurse/nutrtion. ..I should be a professional google allergen review advocate! My passion is there ), BE proactive in asking questions straight to the Actual chefs. BE bold in specific questions and in request of preperation. I ask to see Actual products and labels and procede to request Newly washed cooking utensils/seperate cookware, and wiped down work areas. If approached in the manner of Vital Importance AND Gratitude, Most venues will provide accomodations..Or they will be honest stating they have little to no means to assure allergen safety. THANK YOU Piada and Thsnk you, Chef Jake and staff for a wonderful dining experience! Any Time I can leave a restaurant Verticle (opposed to an ambulance!), is a WINNER to Me ..esp with a smile and a happy tummy 😉
