Pine Marten

Overall we had a good experience and the food tasted really good. One of us requires a gluten free menu and this was well catered for. Giving this restaurant four stars simply because the doneness of the steak was medium well and not medium rare as requested. Mentioned it to a waiter when he asked if we were satisfied with our food. He was politely apologetic and said they would seek to do better next time. I hope so because otherwise it would be a five star review.

We decided to visit to meet together with friends after a coastal walk.One of our party had received a discount voucher so it was perfect. We were welcomed and "checked in" efficiently. We were seated at a table for 6 in a nice secluded window area. We were asked about drinks very promptly but asked if we could have some time. We ordered wine and 3 pints. This was delivered quickly. We then ordered our food. The food was served in good time. Everyone was satisfied with their order. The portions were good. The fish portion was large although the chips were few. The lasagne was slightly overcooked along the edges but it was edible and tasty . The glutenfree curry was a generous portion and tasty. We were asked a couple of times if all was OK and if we needed anything else. Our quiet cozy location was disturbed by an unsettled toddler but we were beside the kids fun zone! and about to leave anyway. We paid at the bar. We were acknowledged as we left. All on all it was a good value for money ,pleasant dining experience.

The Pine Marten has had its day. Ordered a Peroni only to get a gluten-free one. Staff said they don't sell regular Peroni any more but that it tastes just the same.... It definitely doesn't & you need to update your drinks menu to reflect this as you're misleading customers. My main was an over-cooked, dry burger on a highly processed roll with tasteless fries and zero side-garnish. Marston, you need to look at your immediate competition.... McDonalds across the road & the garden-centre next door do better food for lower prices. The decor was like the background music... tired, dated & it felt like being transported back in time 15 years. The only positive of our visit was the pleasant staff. I received vouchers through my door a couple of weeks ago with offers for the Pine Marten. At least I can just chuck them in the bin now as I won't be back.
