Polebridge Mercantile & Bakery

We live in the area and wanted to visit this back country market and bakery. It is a historic site, being an active market since 1914. The drive from Columbia Falls along North Fork Road and along the North Fork of the Flathead River is beautiful, but mostly a rugged gravel road. Bring the best car you have available for this. They have various supplies for people camping in the area, but are also known for their baked goods. I got their fruit fritter, which varies from day to day on the variety and it was quite good. My wife is gluten-free and got a brownie.

This place is awesome. They have great staff, service, vibes and it's a very cool place to get freshed baked breakfast. They have good breakfast burritos, huckleberry danishes and world famous bear claws. That said, they could improve by using quality ingredients like wild harvest milk rather than Costco brand milk. This would make better cappuccinos and lattes. The cappuccinos have been a little bitter...the coffee quality and milk quality could improve tremendously. This is not a five star coffee roastery I understand that...but given how good the fresh bakery is...they could make it one notch better. Also, i'd recommend some more health conscious choices...like gluten free oat bars with flathead cherries... something local and healthy... Also, the bathroom could use a renovation. Pole bridge mercantile sure is a piece of heaven but step your foot in the bathroom and you feel like you've just visited a prison... I'll be back here for sure and I hope they fix these things and i'll be happy to give them five stars if they do.
