Pollo Pepe

This is the first US location! The chicken was absolutely delicious! I prefer it over Pollos Asados los Nortenos, but equal to Super Pollos Asados (both are on Walzem). Pollo Pepe is great for gluten free, but not positive about celiac-safe prep area. The chicken, charro beans, Mexican rice, and cole slaw are all GF. There is no dedicated fryer, and so the homemade tortilla chips are not celiac-safe. They include chips on the plate, which I didn't know. My husband happily devoured them. I had a thigh and a drumstick with charro beans. Both were fantastic! Their red salsa was basically diced tomatoes, was very fresh-tasting, but it's not my favorite condiment. However, ask for their green salsa--it's mouthwateringly delicious! My husband said the Mexican rice was just ok. It's obvious they butcher whole roasted chickens. The size of their meat portions are definitely smaller, but it was just the right amount of food for both my husband and I. We were satisfied, and not stuffed. They have a fridge full of Mexican sodas, and a handful of "the usual" (Coke, Sprite are all I noticed). The manager said the horchata is made on location, and it was delicious. Pretty much everything is made with old family recipes. Dine in or drive through available.
