It's my experience that, for all the star ratings the travel industry wants to award a hotel, all that really matters in a pinch is that the room is clean, has a comfortable bed, and its own spotless bathroom.
I chose this hotel on a recent visit to Skipton for two reasons. One is that I like the chain's beds, which work well for me despite the kind of back problems that have put me in a wheelchair. The other is that the neighbouring Brewers Fayre pub, The Anchor, does a decent gluten-free breakfast.
Having read on their web site that the rooms were all accessible, I didn't warn them I was a wheelchair user. This was potentially a mistake, as there is no lift to the first floor rooms, but they put me in one of the rooms in their recent extension.
It's designed specifically for wheelchair users - although beware if you self-propel, because it's down a loooooong corridor - and it was great to have plenty of space for me and my chair, as well as properly designed shower facilities. While I'm fortunate I can stand a bit and walk a few paces, this is difficult after a long day driving, and being able to just sit under a stream of hot water was bliss.
Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, both at the hotel and in the restaurant next door. Breakfast is a buffet affair for the basics like bread, pastries, cereal and what have you, but when you're ready they cook you a fried breakfast and serve it direct to table, so you get your choice of freshly-cooked items. Including gluten free hash browns.
I suspect I'll be back in the new year with family in town as we make the transition north.
