I recently took my wife and kids to Radcliffe's for an impromptu lunch, having heard good reviews, especially with regard to food hygiene and allergy awareness. Eating out together as a family is a very rare event for us, largely due to my wife having coeliacs disease and of course, having typically picky kids who are hard to please!
Helpfully, the menu clearly identified gluten free options and upon speaking with the staff, they were aware of the importance of ensuring that any risk of cross contamination was mitigated, such as any gluten free options being cooked/fried separately. We were also reassured when the gentleman taking the order took the initiative to forewarn the kitchen of my wife's allergy before we ordered and going to great lengths to ensure that all issues were checked with the kitchen.
Unfortunately, through no fault of the person serving us, there was a mix-up with the order, although the checks subsequently made determined that my wife's meal did not contain gluten.
Whilst many might consider this a potential issue which would cause future concern, the steps taken to avoid what are always inevitable risks, in addition to the most impressive and conscientious manner in which the staff and management responded, was laudable.
Despite my best efforts, the management insisted that there be no charge for the entire order, even though the food was very nice.
Most worthy of praise was the immediate steps taken by the management to investigate how the issue arose, to accept responsibility where required and to learn from the experience. This is a rare quality nowadays in what is sadly an increasingly litigious society!
I would highly recommend the venue, the issues faced notwithstanding.
Finally, I would especially like to thank one particular member of staff (Dan) who deserves to be recognised for his professionalism, high standard of customer service and effort made to make us all feel welcomed throughout our visit.
