For some time now, in publications, events and social networks, I have been coming across the name of a chef, “Aurora Torres”, and a restaurant, “La Herradura”, so, looking for the right moment and of course, assuming the restrictions in the Valencian Community regarding the number of possible diners at a table and the opening hours, I didn't think about it anymore, I picked up the phone and reserved a table for midday.
Before going to the restaurant, located in the town of Los Montesinos, in the heart of the Vega Baja del Segura, I took a look at its appetizing menu that I easily found on the web. I was able to verify that this was very varied, taking into account food intolerances and allergies, especially in the case of celiacs, with a large number of suitable dishes.
We had decided our choice from home, we are very fond of rice dishes from our land of Alicante, from the sea and from the garden, so we chose one that combined all these aspects, “rice with lobster”, the main star of their rice menu. This was composed of a loaf of homemade bread with EVOO, tomato and aioli, three starters, main course, in our case rice, drink, dessert and coffee. Before starting to taste these appetizing dishes, we ordered a cold beer and some pickles to whet our appetites.
After trying the wonderful homemade bread, first they served us a belly salad, secondly carpaccio of red shrimp and young garlic, and to finish the starters, some black pudding cannelloni. These three starters were wonderful hosts to our main course, rice and lobster, with a delicious aroma of the sea and that authentic touch and character that the Guardamar ñora gives it. To accompany it, we enjoyed a glass of wine that the head waiter recommended to us, a Verdejo Rueda white, turning out to be an ideal complement, which highlighted the flavors of our rice. And of course, in any self-respecting restaurant, dessert is not a mere formality, but also deserves its protagonism, it puts the finishing touch and is part of the memory of flavors that will remain engraved in us, so we choose between the possible options a delicious and soft homemade cheesecake. When it was time to ask for the bill, they invited us to a liquor courtesy of the house.
With everything I have explained, I suppose you can already guess that the experience was highly rewarding, looking forward to returning, on that occasion for dinner, when the opening hours allow it, and to be able to enjoy the flamenco show with which they entertained the nights before covid19 .
You cannot miss going to Restaurante La Herradura and enjoying all the gastronomy and good know-how that its chef Aurora Torres treasures, with an unbeatable quality/price ratio.
