Ristorante La Campana & Cocktail Bar

Traditional family run restaurant. Lovely ambience and great service. Suggestion to offer a separate vegan /gluten free menu and oat milk! Definitely will return..

My friend and I visited this restaurant on Tues 27/8 for a meal. This restaurant had been highly recommended to my friend. On arrival I asked for a gluten free menu and whilst there were choices a few had cream which I do have a problem with so as the carbonara did not have cream in its contents chose this. My friend also chose carbonara but from the main menu. When my meal arrived it was literally swimming in cream with a few bits of bacon flung on top!! When I queried the cream the waitress became very defensive stating that carbonara ALWAYS has cream. I said I make this meal but always with eggs and I believe this is how Italians make it. In fact I spoke to an Italian later that evening who confirmed I was right. The waitress did offer me another meal but quite catergorically this would take half an hour to cook. I said I was happy to wait. She then returned to our table stating that I did not ask for the lactose free menu and that carbonara on the main menu apparently states it has cream. She again said carbonara ALWAYS has cream. Obviously I'd upset her as I was trying to point out that on the gluten free menu it didn't include cream for the carbonara but she just wouldn't listen. The waitress then told us to leave and when we offered to pay for the drinks and starter she told us to get out, which we did!! My friend has since spoken to the person who had recommended this restaurant and was extremely upset at our treatment and whilst this person was a regular patron has vowed never to return. My friend and I were never confrontational and were totally stunned at our treatment and obviously we will never return.
