This place is all about seafood. Fine seafood dining. Almost everything on the menu was gluten free by default. If you're not a seafood fan then there are zero alternatives as far as I could tell. I don't like seafood so didn't enjoy 60% of the food (ok let's be honest, I hated 3 of the 6 dishes we had... disgusting. But to be fair, I was in the wrong restaurant: wish there was a non-seafood option for the very high prices we paid). However, I'm rating this place a 5 because the people with me that liked seafood said it was "Amazing!!!". There are a dozen beer options and lots of wine selections. The wait service was impeccable. We had the "tasting menu" for 6 people. If one person on the table chooses that then everyone on the table has to have that. This gives you 4 starter courses (3 plates shared between 6 people) then 1 main each person, then 1 desert each. This was plenty of food for everyone. They catered brilliantly for my wife celiac too. Almost everything on the menu was gluten free by default.

Looking for a stop on the drive back from Melbourne to Canberra we settled on Paynesville purely so we could dine at Sardine and they did not disappoint. We chose the degustation and eft ot in the hands of the restaurant to served an amazing meal of dish after dish of wonderful, original, interesting flavours. Service was superb, and they had a good, well priced wine list featuring some good local drops. Staff had no problems coping with a need for a gluten free meal. A must visit if you’re anywhere in the Gippsland Lakes region, or looking to break the journey.
