The salty pelican is a very comfortable, homey, laid-back restaurant and bar. The downstairs is more of a family vibe with a corner diner sort of atmosphere. The upstairs is a rooftop area that is all surrounding a well-stocked bar. Reminds me of the kind of place locals might go after their shift. The views from up there are amazing. Top-notch. Panoramic view of the water, boats, and skyline. You will be hard-pressed to find a better experience of the Fernandina beach views than from here. Dwayne took care of us at a high top table that was in the far back corner. He was the perfect mix of sunshine and upbeat energy, while allowing us to be in our own conversation and be at peace with the outstanding views. The music was pleasant, I think it was a mix of soft rock ballads from the 90s, big hair I think it's called? Sorry if I have the genre title wrong. Anyway, I don't drink, and they were able to mix me up a classic pina-strawberry mix drink, sans the rum. They had a GLUTEN FREE ROLL they were willing to switch out on their featured lobster roll, which was a huge bonus. (I'm often left to choose from less desirable options when having a gluten allergy at restaurants in small towns such as this one.) I would highly recommend this place as a must-go stop on your Fernandina beach trip.
