This place is a hidden GEM! We came here looking for a late lunch during siesta, expecting a normal deli with counter-serve meats and cheeses. But it is, in fact, a portal to an outstanding and authentic traditional Sicilian restaurant experience. The owner Danilo runs a full service restaurant with seating in the back patio. Just ask.
We were served bread, local olive oil, handmade organic ricotta, fresh caponata, and an excellent assortment of local meats and cheeses.
That was for starters. We finished off with a delightful rice casserole with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and egg. Many of the dishes we tried were unlike anything we tried before. All of them were supremely delicious. This was one of the best meals of my life. To top it off, Danilo is very good company, and was really attentive to our requests for gluten free options (girlfriend is celiac). He is the sixth-generation owner of this place, which has been around since 1880.
He gave us Marsala wine before we left, on the house.
Go and ask for sit-down meal if you have the chance. I hope you’ll be pleasantly surprised the way we were.
