I was so excited to try this restaurant because I have a wheat allergy and they advertise "gluten free" options. I was with my daughter. She had the chocolate chip pancakes (that weren't bad). I had the gf chicken strips. So, they were hot when they came, which is great, however when I bit into the chicken several things happened. It did not feel cooked all the way through, it started draining out grease all over me (and it was hot), and the breading just came right off. I didn't want to finish that piece so I tried the second piece and almost the same experience. They either aren't cooking it long enough or they're not using the right part of the chicken. My fries were just fries. Also, I asked for coconut milk to put in my coffee. Both my daughter and I agreed that it had turned and was no longer edible. It ruined my coffee. We will not go back here. Which is sad because it's so exciting finding gf stuff. I hope they can figure things out. The atmosphere was just "family diner". It took our waitress a long time to come back so we could pay the bill.

The food is incredible, and the people at both locations are wonderful. The Sassy onion stands out because the people are tight nit- and you feel like you are contributing to the community of salem when you're here. We know most of our servers' names, and they remember us. The food options are fantastic, made for different needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, paleo, Mediterranean, ect)

I planned my whole trip around The Sassy Onion from Boise, Idaho to LincolnCity. I try to stop here every time I come to the coast. I have a very bad gluten allergy and I can eat all the gf food here. The chicken strips are to die for. I also had the banana bread French toast, and the daily special which was crab cakes eggs Benedict. My appetizer was a beautiful Bloody Mary made by the beautiful Sarah!(Don’t worry I didn’t eat it all by myself I shared) The only downside to the sassy onion is they are only open until 2:00 so you’ve got to come early.
