If you're reading this you're struggling with how to differentiate among 6 local Ethiopian restaurants with 4.5 stars. I haven't been to the others but what I can tell you is how completely and thoroughly my son and I were delighted by Sebseb. We loved the on-the-corner, neighborhood ambiance; the beautiful jazz playing overhead; and the charm, sincerity, and skill of the hostess and waitress. We each got the veggie deluxe combination - - 8 half-cup servings of different lentils, beets, cabbage, greens, and stringbeans (I just took the leftovers out of the fridge to name them accurately and OMG, they smell heavenly!) - - and some thinner-than-expected, hand-made by a relative, gluten-free injera that made it especially easy to scoop up the veggies. How wonderful was the veggie deluxe combo? 11 out of a possible 10. Incredibly, each veggie was differently seasoned and each was delicious in its unique way. We learned from the hostess that she cooks and seasons each veggie freshly each day, which I'm sure accounts for the extraordinary satisfaction of this beautiful, tasty, and healthful dish.
I'm sure the other Ethiopian restaurants are yummy (are we lucky in Silver Spring or what?) but I'm not even going to try anywhere else until I taste a number of their other dishes. You will be so satisfied, happy, and full of deliciousness after you sample the bounty of Sebseb!
