I visited The Shack yesterday for brunch around 11:30 AM. As someone with celiac disease, I appreciate their extensive gluten-free options and the fact that their staff is specially trained due to the owner's daughter being celiac. This has always made me feel safe dining here.
However, my recent experience was deeply disappointing. I ordered a chocolate chip pancake and clearly informed the server that I needed it to be gluten-free. Unfortunately, the server who delivered our food was not the one who took our order. After taking a big bite, our original server returned and informed me that she thought the pancake was not gluten-free. She quickly took it back to the kitchen.
A few minutes later, the manager and server confirmed that the pancake was indeed not gluten-free. Although they comped the meal, we decided to leave immediately. As someone who is severely symptomatic, I choose restaurants I believe I can trust. This incident has shaken my confidence in The Shack, and "disappointed" doesn't begin to describe how I feel.
