It was worth the drive!
Since I have heard so much about this place, the hubby and I decided to take a day trip(it's almost an hour from where we live). I am so glad we did!
Smoke 'N Ash is an Ethiopian BBQ joint. Combining all the spice forward delicacy of Ethiopia with the slow, smoke technique of great BBQ.
This menu is full of options. If you just want great bbq, you can order pork ribs, sausage, chicken, and such by the platter/ 1/2 pound. However, if you really want a treat, go with the Tex-Ethiopian!
Big Q and I split the Ethiopian Platter for 2. Smoked Doro Wat(smoked stewed chicken) was absolutely succulent! Rib tips were more tangy and savory than the traditional sweet, which worked beautifully with how tender they were. Awaze brisket and ribs were over the top in spices and flavor. Super tender and smoky, you didn’t even NEED the sauce( and you know I'm a saucy girl). For our sides, we got the Gommen collard greens and berbere mac n cheese. I wasn't that crazy about the greens( they were a little different than the Gommen I am used to), but when you eat them with any of the proteins, it works! The berbere Mac n cheese was less creamy than you may expect Mac to be, but it was cheesy and perfectly spiced with an easy hit of heat from the berbere. Plus, the Injera it was served on and with was Gluten-Free! Be in the know, alot of Ethiopian establishments cut their teff flour(which is naturally Gluten-Free) with wheat flour because it's cheaper. So, be sure to check or ask if the injera is made only with Teff Flour if you are Gluten-Free.
All in all? GOING BACK!
Check it Out!
