Last night at dinner with my family I had a frustrating time that turned into a very sweet and thoughtful experience. I’m gluten free. Going out to eat is always a gamble with exposure so I ask a lot of questions to try and safeguard my health and minimize exposure. At times I feel like a pain having to send the wait staff back multiple times to check on ingredients. (I was never made to feel bad here, it’s in my head, the staff as all very accommodating) When my plate arrived I double checked with the server that it was all gf. I was assured it was. After taking a couple bites of the “baked” brussels sprouts our sever came back over and told me that they were flash fried at the end, in the same fryer as other items. I was super frustrated by this, but also thankful. She didn’t have to tell me. Once my family was done we were approached by a manager who said his wife’s best friend has celiac so he understands how hard it can be going out. He said that they would be going over the menu that night to make changes to make it more transparent. He also comped part of our bill (I didn’t end up eating my dish). Let me tell you, this was above and beyond. I was blown away by his compassion and willingness to help others feel welcome. It left me in tears, happy tears. We will definitely be back.
I also want to note that it’s refreshing that the kids menu is not just fried food (baked chicken, noodles, burgers).
