Please save your time and money and avoid this Sully’s Steamers location. I’ve visited every Sully’s in the Upstate, and this one has by far the worst staff I’ve encountered. My boyfriend and I used to come in frequently during the evening for dinner, but we’ve consistently had negative experiences—especially with the girl who usually handles the register. This most recent visit was the final straw. I want to emphasize that the morning crew is fantastic and consistently provides excellent customer service. This feedback is specifically about a few of the evening employees. We came in to purchase a dozen gluten-free bagels. Ivory, the regular evening cashier, greeted us with her usual attitude. When we asked for a dozen gluten-free bagels, she initially rang up only a half dozen. We politely corrected her, but she didn't change it and still only grabbed six bagels. After repeating ourselves again, she asked once more what we wanted. At this point, the incompetence was frustrating. During checkout, she struggled to ring up the gluten-free bagels, asking multiple coworkers and spending several minutes trying to figure it out. It made us question whether she had been properly trained or simply didn’t care about her job or the customers. After finally completing the transaction, I checked the bag in the car and noticed the label said, “Contains Wheat.” I understand gluten-free items may have cross-contamination, but this label clearly stated wheat was present. Concerned, we returned to the store within minutes to ask for clarification. Again, we were met with attitude and were told, “That’s just what they use.” I understand the staff doesn’t make the bagels and can’t control the ingredients, which is why I simply asked for a refund. Ivory agreed to process it. While this was happening, another employee—Jalen (or Jayla?)—was sitting on what appeared to be a prep or storage table, on her phone, in full view of the dining area. She rolled her eyes at us and mumbled under her breath. My boyfriend called out her nasty attitude and Ivory responded with, “Don’t come in here with all that,” which is ironic given how we were treated from the moment we walked in, and every other time we've come in here. Not to mention the unsanitary and unprofessional behavior of sitting on the food counter on your phone in front of the entire restaurant. Not only was the attitude unacceptable, but the unsanitary and unprofessional behavior of sitting on a food prep surface and scrolling on your phone in front of customers was disturbing. As we finished the refund and walked away, we could still hear negative comments being made behind our backs. This evening staff at this location has consistently demonstrated unprofessionalism, poor training, and a lack of basic customer service. Ivory and Jalen need serious training—or at the very least, to learn how to treat people with respect. If you can’t handle a customer-facing role professionally, it might be time to consider a different job.
