Sushi & Poke is a restaurant where they make it clear, they are “doing what [they] love.” The prices are extremely reasonable, and the portions of the entrees are on par with the prices (except the sushi rolls). The most important aspect of sushi is the freshness of the fish; and the sushi is very fresh and tasty! The menu offers a wide variety of items, from speciality rolls, and a la carte sushi or sashimi to Ramen soup, Bento boxes, and Poke bowls.
My order was delivered accurately and in a timely manner with exceptional service. I have not eaten inside the establishment, so I can’t comment on the restaurant’s ambiance, sushi bar, etc. What I can assure you, of the many places you can order from, Sushi & Poke is a winner, and I’ll be ordering again. My second time- I order a poke bowl and the four (4) sushi rolls- white tuna jalapeño, salmon avocado, tuna avocado, and yellowtail scallion. There were six pieces to a roll, which is the average. The portion was disappointing. At Sushi and Poke, for the less than $1 more, I wish they made them large enough for 8 slices of the same size or larger and 6 slices. It’s shortsighted.
The bowls are approximately 6” full of the fish, base, and toppings you select. All the ingredients are fresh. They could note which of the sauces, aside from the Shoyu is gluten-free, as well as some of the toppings. When ordering rolls, they could add enough sauce for four (4) rolls vs what you’d get if you ordered two (2). In food, as in like, attention to detail, minor differences, and non-myopic thinking are what makes huge distinctions. Nonetheless, each poke bowl exceeded expectations, and is priced right. The second time ordering, I order the poke bowl with two proteins- tuna and salmon. Sushi Rice was the base, with tuna, salmon, gluten-free shoyu sauce, masago, radish, purple cabbage, edamame, pistachio, and sesame seeds. Again, it was fresh, and delicious.
Don’t hesitate, order, or visit their location at 1310 South Street in Philadelphia. Well recommended!
