Whenever my partner and I are craving some nice, local Thai food, Thai Orchid is always on the front of our minds. This place is always a reliable choice for us!
Prior to my partner being diagnosed as a celiac, we got practically the same foods pictured here (with the exception of the Kaeng Phed/Red Curry). It was a rough time at the beginning trying to see which restaurants we could feasibly eat at, and it seemed like all our favorites were no longer going to be the same. However, Thai Orchid has proven time and time again that they can make similar, wonderful dishes with accommodations as needed!
Thai Orchid was still one of our favorite restaurants before, and that has not changed! The staff was able to adjust upon request. This mostly goes for the Gluten-Free Chicken Pad Thai that I usually order, but I like to request this so my partner can enjoy it alongside me.
The food is always incredible and even looking back at these pictures is making me hungry. The Gluten-Free Chicken Pad Thai always comes out hot and fresh. The flavors are comforting, and the portion is filling! For me, I usually got it at a Spice Level 0, but 1 is just perfect for me (who has a lower spice tolerance). Even with the help I get, we are still able to take whatever is left home and that makes a nice meal for another day.
My partner did notice a bit of a difference in the noodles when we first tried it gluten-free, but it was never a negative quality. Texture is quite important for them, but this Pad Thai was still about the same as the original! I can tell they enjoy eating it too as more and more forkfuls get taken off my plate.
I tried the Thai Ice Tea and Thai Ice Coffee before, and both are so good! It tastes as good as beautiful as it looks. Personally, I like the Thai Ice Coffee a bit more, but both are still enjoyable!
My partner usually gets the Kaeng Phed (Red Curry) or Koong Ob Woonsen. Both should be gluten-free by default! They get the Kaeng Phed at a Spice Level of 2 to 3, and the Koong Ob Woonsen at around the same amount. They tried a 4 for the Kaeng Phed and that was too spicy for them, but it probably would be well-suited for someone with an even higher spice tolerance! I appreciated how they were also able to lower the Spice Level for the curry for them.
They told me the good quality is always consistent (which is quite important). The Kaeng Phed has a nice, strong flavor that is complimented by the creamy coconut milk. As for the Koong Ob Woonsen, it is savory with its strong presence of ginger. However, it is not overwhelming! It is notably a wonderful flavor all around.
I have tried some bites of both and the flavor still shines through. Both come with shrimp and it is always so pleasant. The bacon for the Koong Ob Woonsen is cooked just right, and is some of the best I have seen!
We love Thai Orchid! It is great having such a place not far from home. We feel that we always eat good for a reasonable price on our dates.
As a side note, I really appreciated that Thai Orchid updated their Hours on Google Maps after a phone call we had. Both of us were a little unclear of the opening time on Monday before, but we were provided the correct time. Shortly after, it was fixed online!
