The Britannia - SMOK'D

Booked a table for 7 and we all enjoyed our food. The pub has a nice atmosphere and seems like it has a crowd of frequent visitors which is nice. We booked for Christmas but they never got our meal requests (things like that happen everywhere) so we ordered off the main menu. However service was super slow and we were waiting a long time for our food. The food was all fine, but not amazing, my chips were under done ect. The tastiest thing ordered was the brisket and the worst were both salads ordered. So stick to the bbq meat. One coeliac in our party could only have a dry salad. Sad as they said they cater to special diets on the menu. I had emailed about this too and they never replied.

What a great spot! All of the meats and the bbq sauce are gluten free, so for meat-eating folks with coeliac/celiac there are plenty of good gluten free options. Enjoyed a rack of ribs and some fries and didn’t get sick. That said, I wish there were a gluten free option for the Sunday roast because it looked delicious! The staff were well versed in cross contamination for those with serious allergies (for example, the grilled corn is done on the same surface as flatbreads so it’s not a good option for a serious gluten allergy). Also, one of the only places (including in America!) that I’ve seen picklebacks on a menu, which is incredible.
