What a lovely meal we've had tonight for our wedding anniversary! Staying at Elmer's Court the other side of the water; we decided to head elsewhere for dinner. Fish was a priority and I'm so glad we decided upon this lovely pub restaurant. Everything I ate was really good. Lovely - and different - selection of Gins tempted me (had a raspberry Whitely Neill , served with mint leaves and my hubby a W.N quince Gin with blueberries! both with Fevertree tonic) We were shown to our reserved table. It was busy for a Tuesday though of course it is half term. Perusing the menu over some decent olives I chose Parma ham and roasted fig; hubby salt and pepper squid. Good presentation and portion sizes and it arrived very quickly. Mine was delicious, you could taste the freshness and quality ingredients. Checking menu items with Chef (I'm gluten intolerant) was done with ease and a smile. This is far from the norm, and so very appreciated! I had whole sole with samphire and lemon butter and parmentier potatoes. Hubby (who swopped potatoes with me a parmentier are my absolute favourite!....) had skate with capers and peas. Fish was cooked to perfection and clearly was extremely fresh ..it fell from the bones. It was beautiful! We had a bottle of Gavi wine which was lovely against the mild sweet fish, the butter and lemon. I was too full really for pudding, even after a wait...had a scoop of salted caramel and raspberry sorbet. Hubby managed what looked like a truly delicious whisky and dark fruit trifle. An Amaretto and an Armagnac were good for digestion....and a quick game of a perculiar 3d version of Connect 4 type wooden game - I won! rounded off a wonderful evening. My grandparents lived in Lymington for many many years (Mr. Runeckles, dentist at Chawton house, now a doctors' practice,) and it was lovely to return. Thank you so much.
