A beautiful place with great nostalgic decor. Service is great and nothing a bother or too much trouble. The tea selection is fantastic. I had rainbow rooibos. And it does taste of marzipan. The gluten free carrot cake, best one I've ever had.

Whenever I visit Stratford I regularly go here for lunch/afternoon tea, but after today’s appalling service I will not be returning until new management takes over or a visible effort is made to improve standards. We booked in advance for a family occasion for afternoon tea (as specified online) highlighting two individuals with allergies (coeliac). Upon arrival there were no booking details recorded so allergies were not flagged appropriately. After firstly being told a gluten free vegetarian afternoon tea was not possible, the manager came over to take our order - however the food that arrived was gluten free but not vegetarian. Whilst other family members ate their food it took nearly 20mins for them to correct their mistake, by which point most people had finished their food - spoiling the occasion.. not to mention having to request several times the cream and jam that were missing. The food itself is all bought in except the sandwiches, meanwhile the scones were dry. The manager then offered a table of non drinkers Prosecco to apologise with, after which he then disappeared, and it took a while to flag someone down to receive the bill. A partial refund would have been appreciated. This venue lives on its old reputation, and is in decline. I hope this venue can return to the standards it previously had.
