The Wood Restaurant & Lounge

This was our first restaurant pick in Canmore to start off our vacation and we were very pleased. Wonderful mountainous views. Clearly a local favorite since the inside was packed with families watching sports. Our waiter Wally, was particularly friendly and inquisitive, guessing where we were from for the fun of it. He was attentive and kind. We watched him handle another couple who were not thrilled with their BBQ sandwhic, which he dealt with graciously. The food was decent (local hard cider / Granny Smith flavor was amazingly good), but it was honestly Wally that made it for us. He persuaded us to come back another night which we did, and ordered the desert he recommended- the ice cream sandwhich which was gluten free. My wife loved it. They also played Music Bingo which was fun. Please let Wally know Zach and Maegan from Arkansas (not Louisiana 😂) said hello and thank you.

The food was tasty, just not what we expected. Steak sandwich and chips came as a whole steak on top of garlic bread (almost a sandwich!). The service was friendly but very slow. Not many gluten free options at all. Would return on a less busy day for quicker service.

Great experience dining at The Wood tonight. We sat in their outdoor seating with great views of the mountains, lots of shade umbrellas, and great service. I had their maple chicken (when in Canada) and it was most excellent. It came with a maple butter compound in top that was so good. They also have good gluten free options and a good kids menu. Highly recommend.
