We visited in late December, only to be told by the Acting Manager that the Chef refused to serve me. This was after I declined to sign an allergen disclaimer for their food, despite the Food Standards Agency advising against such disclaimers for individuals with allergies. So, if it's not a disclaimer, what exactly is it if I was denied the only item I ordered – chips?
I asked for contact details for head office through Messenger but was ignored and seemingly blocked. Very unprofessional. I had to contact Head Office myself, which resulted in an Area Manager calling me to apologise for the 'young' Manager. She confirmed the situation occurred as I had described and assured me the response would be updated to remove the denial of my refusal. However, instead of a proper apology, the response you can see has just been reworded to say, "Sorry you felt you couldn't eat with us." I repeat, I had no choice in the matter. It’s appalling that the Manager couldn’t fully own up to the situation, so I’m forced to go back to Head Office once more. It’s completely avoidable and demonstrates that they don’t take allergy complaints seriously.
This isn’t the first issue I’ve had – previously, I was served a dish with gluten despite clearly requesting a gluten-free meal.
They claim the same policy of these ' non disclaimers' exist in other Mitchell & Butler chains, but that’s simply not true. I’ve visited many in the past two years and have always been handed a Gluten-Free Menu.
If you have allergies, I strongly advise avoiding this place. I’m also very concerned about how they handle complaints.
