The Boatside Inn

Unfortunately I had a very disappointing and infuriating experience eating here for lunch. They claim on their website to cater to vegans, however their attempt really misses the mark. I ordered the portabello mushroom burger which is one of two mains labelled as 'vegan option available'. When it arrived, it was not a burger at all, but a small pile of vegetables - one slice of tomato, one leaf of lettuce, one mushroom, half a ghirkin and a small, mushy patty on top with a small portion of chips. Why on earth would the vegan (not gluten free) version of a burger not include a bun without that being explained? And with no sauce?? I actually felt insulted. Plus the dish was supposed to come with slaw and this was just removed without being replaced with anything - how hard would it be to include a salad instead? When you order a burger you expect a hearty meal, but I finished my meal in 3 minutes and left the restaurant still very hungry. Unacceptable.

Gluten free owners who should be shouting from the roof tops about their wonderful choice of food which is so often difficult to find for coeliac or gluten free customers. Even the dog friendly bar was cosy & not shut away from the lovely surroundings. Definitely on our small lists of pubs to revisit if in the area . Wish it was nearer to home Food excellent staff friendly & local beer on draught perfect. We didn’t stay there
