This is an excellent sandwich shop. The service was great and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. We ordered a bowl of the meatball soup, Motown Philly sandwich and the French Dip. Only one complaint...all the portions were great, except for the French dip. I paid extra for the Gluten free roll. The entire sandwich was smaller than had I ordered the regular bread. It was delicious! I just didn't feel the portion I received was a good value for the price. Too bad. :( I'd like to go back, buy hopefully they can either rethink the portion or the surcharge.

If you have celiac disease and choose to eat here, I suggest you ask to see the list of ingredients of everything you eat -especially the sauces. Sat. Feb. 10/18 I ordered a sandwich on GF bun, with no meat, no cheese, grilled veggies, and mayo. The guy who made my sandwich asked if I wanted paprika sauce, I asked if it was GF? He said yes, so I said sure. I also asked them to avoid any contamination with wheat products because I get really sick. He asked if I’m celiac, I said yes. Three hours later, I felt queasy and knew that something in the sandwich was not GF. I had worked 9-2, got picked up on my way to Seattle, and heard they had GF sandwiches, so I stopped to get one. Their sandwich was the only thing I ate all day besides coffee, and my reaction to gluten occurs within 3-4 hours of consumption. Second, when I went in today to ask what was in their GF bun, and paprika sauce, their “most senior staff” informed me paprika sauce contains WORCESTERSHIRE sauce, and I didn’t need to ask anything further because the main ingredient of this sauce is barley malt. For the staff at Carvery, let me inform you that barley contains gluten and is not safe for someone with celiac DISEASE. It’s called a disease for a reason, not an allergy, not a preference, not an intolerance. Is diabetes an allergy to sugar? Is cardiovascular disease/high blood pressure an allergy to having excess blood? Let that sink in and be a lesson on human biology for you. Third, the guy who took my order and handed me the order said, “Here’s your west coast sandwich on GF bun,” a sandwich advertised for $10, which I paid $14.18 for. I asked for my receipt, and he only gave me the visa receipt. I just assumed they charge $3 for GF bun, because we all know restaurants get away with charging anything they want for someone with this disease when really it doesn’t cost a whole lot more to make/purchase than whole wheat products. I’m mentioning this because the staff who refunded me for the sandwich I did not order, was baffled as to why I would pay $14.18 for a sandwich advertised as $10 because she did not know what to ring in for the refund, so I asked her how much is a GF bun? She said $1.50 extra, so be careful they don’t rip you off, because they ripped me off more than once here in a single visit. She kept my visa receipt because she wanted to show her manager that I was charged extra, as well to explain herself as to why she refunded me an amount that didn't apply to any one of their sandwiches, so I let her keep it. My review is lengthy in hopes that the owner reads this, as well as celiacs, because when I got a refund for the order that I did not ask for (it was not GF), I was not offered the chance to speak to the manager/owner. Restaurants should educate their staff to take food allergies, especially diseases, seriously. They’re lucky accidental ingestion doesn’t cause me to go into anaphylactic shock, because if it did, they’d be getting sued for my medical bill in the states. How do you refund me for the pain I suffered all weekend long, for the Benadryl I had to stop and purchase in the states to minimize the effects of the stomach and nerve pain I knew would soon kick in, for the embarrassment of asking a gas station for a barf bag because I knew I was going to throw up more than once any second now, for the discomfort of having diarrhea all weekend long in the hotel and anywhere I went, …I could go on. Thank you for wrecking my family day long weekend, a weekend I spent hugging a hotel toilet thanks to the ignorance of your staff. It doesn’t take long to look up ingredients, especially since we were the only two customers in the store close to closing time (3:30pm).
