The George Hotel

GLUTEN FREE BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER AVAILABLE. I stayed at The George Hotel this weekend during a fossil hunting trip along the Dorset Coast. The Hotel is just a 15 minute drive from both Lyme Regis and Charmouth, so a perfect location. Being vegetarian and gluten free (coeliac) it is often difficult to eat out safely. All the staff I spoke to, and the manager in particular, were well informed and knowledgeable about gluten free food. I felt at ease to eat here. I can only review the breakfast as its the only meal I had, but I will certainly have my evening meal here on my next visit! The current online sample menu doesn't have the chips marked as gluten free but they ARE gluten free and cooked separately from gluten, which is a bonus. I found almost all of the local chip shops and restaurants that advertised gluten free chips, cook them with gluten containing items, so not gluten free. But no worries at the George Hotel! With regards to the accommodation, it was very cosy and exceptionally well presented and cleaned to a high standard. There is a small car park and we had no trouble parking our large vehicle. The local town seemed nice as we drove through.

Drop in on a Friday afternoon while travelling home for some dinner. All tables were pre-booked but we were slipped in as we were going to be quick. No other local places had a good gluten free menu, but speaking with the manager he said they try keeping everything gluten free, even the Yorkshire puddings for Sunday roasts. Loads of good options and all staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
