The Golden Lion Hotel

Enjoyable 2 night stay, good value (£109 B&B for 2 of us) and wonderful staff. Parked at Darwoods Pond car park £4 for 23 hours on the app but we weren’t allowed to extend this on the Saturday so rushed back to move it to Cattle Market (both 5min walk away) for the last 4 hours (free after 6pm and all Sunday, machine takes cards). Room 21 was quite compact but more seriously was above the function room so was loud until midnight on the Friday - we were able to change to room 16 which was larger & quieter though there was a loud “purring” sound (over the boiler or was it the Golden Lion?). Breakfast was really tasty (one of the best vegan brekkies I’ve had at a hotel) but was very slow despite the staff’s best efforts and although there are gluten free options/toast, my wife had a rogue black pudding so this had to be sent back). Free WiFi but a bit glacial in speed! Beds were ok, could be updated. Checkin 3pm, checkout 11am, can book slots for brekkie up to 10am on weekends. Guided busway to Cambridge every 10mins from station road, £2 each way while the government funded offer continues. Welcome Chinese has gluten free options and so did Vadi Turkish which was excellent though books up quickly. Nice river view to enjoy a drink at The Floods pub.

Food was good and service was pleasant, plenty of choice and can cater for Gluten Free and Dairy Free with advance notice
