We visited The Hickory Inn for the first time on 28 December 2020, but plan to return! We love supporting local businesses, and like the casual atmosphere of this place. The service from Barbara was exceptional, and everything we ordered was quite tasty!
Barbara indicated that except for the gluten-free variety, the pizza crust is made in house. Further, she recommended the whole wheat is it's quite popular. It was tasty enough, but the strong wheat flavor didn't pair well with the Greek pizza toppings.
Having said that, there are definitely issues that the new owner (of one year) needs to address:
1. The cabin is authentic and thus has no insulation. They try to heat it with ancient and quite possibly soon to-be-faulty space heaters. The temperature was so cold inside that I had to wear my jacket and then use my husbands as a blanket over my legs. Cold is just an inconvenience, but safety?!?
2. The ladies restroom was not even close to being clean. Further, I don't think it can be cleaned, as the dirt is obviously ancient. S/he needs to gut it and start over. It's important for health purposes to have a sanitary bathroom!
3. Likewise, the ceiling tiles and lights need to be replaced. They are water stained, filthy, and bulging and thus there is a likelihood of sediment ending up in food.
If it weren't for those factors, I'd have given them a five. Hopefully on our return visit we'll see improvement.
