The Makery Cake Company

The Makery did a fantastic job with the gluten free/vegan cake they made for my daughter's graduation party this weekend! I could not have been more pleased! It was both beautiful and delicious. My guests were raving about it, exclaiming that they could not believe it was gluten and dairy free. I know it was, because my daughter, I, and our co-hosts are very sensitive to gluten and dairy. We all ate it, enjoyed it, and did not get sick. Also -- ready on time, as promised, correct spelling, no hassles! Big thanks to The Makery for making my daughter's graduation so special! You should go to their shop and see what the can do with cake and frosting. It's pretty amazing!

Ok… I was super hesitant to write this because I truly wanted to love this cake shop. I paid $30 to go have a cake tasing (which I think is tacky to have to pay to sample a potentially 1k wedding cake) but I gladly did because hopefully this was our spot for our wedding cake. The day of the tasting… they were not ready for us even though we booked weeks in advance. Someone was just running around grabbing samples of what they could find. I told them when I made the appt I’m allergic to gluten and they said I could “sweet talk someone into making those options at my appt.” I got to try one sample of dense, dry gluten free cake, and a chocolate cupcake he had to go microwave to taste better. I can’t believe they were microwaving last minute chocolate cupcakes and then quoting me over a thousand dollars for a custom wedding cake. The whole experience felt so unprofessional and to be honest… the cake was not good. They asked little design questions just printed my Pinterest idea pictures, ran around trying to find samples, then quoted us the price. Meanwhile, another employee on the phone was telling someone a tip is expected so they could either do it over the phone or have cash ready. I worked in bridal world and I know good customer service for engaged couples… and this is not it. We left after our thirty dollar 10 minute appt and went to Whole Foods. Priced out berry chantilly cake for 120 people and bride and groom cake the same size the Makery was going to do… $850 less and tastes way better. We were just adding flowers from the florist to the cake…. The Makery wasn’t doing anything crazy for us… we can add the same flowers to our Whole Foods cake and it’ll look the same. It was also edible and no one microwaved it. My only hope in writing this review is that the owner sees it because it felt unprofessional and embarrassing for what they charge. I’d want to know if this were my business. This is a preferred vendor of the Manor House and I’m going to let them know about our experience as well because they should know if they recommend this business.
