My family and I ate here for Father’s Day, with my father being Coeliac it was very important that there were gluten free options available for him and The Nelson Inn far exceeded our expectations, about 90% of their menu is gluten free. My father has never had so many options when eating out since being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease, this made our meal extra special. Please keep offering so many gluten free options for others! My father was also able to pull his own gluten free pint, free of charge having booked a Father’s Day reservation in advance which was a nice touch. The food was excellent, there were a handful of vegetarian options for my husband too. Really nice atmosphere and very clean. We had a great time eating here and would highly recommend a visit, especially if you are gluten free!

Really enjoyed the Nelson for lunch. Had the fish and chips and my partner had the Venison. Been going on and off for 10+years and I've seen different menus different owners maybe staff or both. In the past food would seesaw and the atmosphere could be dark and dingy. Now and the past year I've been twice and it's such a brighter welcoming place. The staff are very helpful, especially for me being gluten free. The menu is impressive /solid without being pretentious or too basic. Plenty of classics but done impressively well. Definitely will be coming back in future. P.s ( Any waiter/waitress that can give me a wine/alcohol pairing recommendation with my meal is very much appreciated so kudos to the blond lady who did as much.).

A warning for anyone with an allergy. Went for a lovely family meal last weekend and everything was absolutely spot on - beautiful food and great service. Until dessert time. I am Coeliac and ordered a gluten free noce of Yorkshire blue. The waitress put it in front of me, stating ‘gluten free’ - thank goodness I realised the crackers most certainly weren’t. A near miss that would have left me extremely poorly for a few days!! So do go - but if you have an allergy be very, very careful!
