Good atmosphere, friendly staff. Tried to book and got an answerphone, left my details as requested, but didn't hear back (1 star removed.) Fish and chips was well presented, but the chips were pale and not at all crispy on the outside. The batter wasn't very crisp either on mine, but the gluten free one was perfectly crispy. I hadn't visited for 2 years and it's under new ownership now. I'll visit again as it's a lovely pub and this visit may just have been unlucky. The beer was good.

Very slow service. Mediocre food. Booked a table for lunch outside for 8 people. Despite the government's Covid rules saying you can now have up to 30 people outside, they insisted on splitting us onto two tables which were placed in such a position that we couldn't really talk to each other. One of the party was late, so they waited for them, but we had to ask if we could order some drinks in the meantime. After ordering the food, it took forever to arrive, with the main course being served 1.5 hours after the late person had arrived (the rest of us had been there for 2 hours). Everyone agreed that most of the food was OK but nothing special. The mackerel starter was good but, on the other hand, one of the main course baguettes was swimming in water on the plate. After dessert, we finally left after 3.5 hours. On the plus side, they can make many of the menu items as gluten-free... but it's a secret! It's not mentioned on the menu but if you ask, the waiter will produce a copy of the menu that's marked up with all the GF items. Why not just put those on the menu? Unlikely to return.
