The Pelican Club

It was a treat to celebrate our anniversary here. The escargot was SUBLIME. They were able to accommodate my celiac disease by serving it without puff pastries, and as wonderful as I can imagine those gluten puffs would be, the escargot did not need them. We also enjoyed the scallops and artichokes, short ribs, and red snapper (with a delightful spicy kick!). It was wonderful to be able to enjoy some fantastic food despite my restrictions. Our server was new and he did struggle with the wine a bit. On the third spill while pouring/refilling it felt a little untrained. We didn’t buy a really expensive bottle of wine, but if we had, I might have been upset. So that area could use a little improvement but the food was phenomenal.

Overall, our group's experience was mixed. Some really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, but there enjoyment was overshadowed by the many issues. It could have been an off-night, but we would not return in the future. Our server was friendly, but at times over friendly which led to several mistakes during the service. Mistakes happen, but these mistakes led to our party member with dietary restrictions getting sick due to not being properly accommodated and cross-contamination. The server was made aware of the dietary restrictions at the beginning of the meal. (Not to mention the fact that the vegetarian, gluten free meal was more expensive than any of the meat dishes ordered, despite the meal being vegetables and rice.) While publicly stating a dress code, it was not enforced. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it was conflict with expectations based on the website and reviews.
