The Pelican Inn

Dined here with a friend last night and the Pelican exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and value for money. We had 3 courses and a glass of wine each and spent ~£35/head which is very reasonable. The dishes were a great fusion of creative gastronomy and country pub cooking with portions that were generous without being overwhelming. I highly recommend the whiskey smoked salmon to start. The building itself is charming, welcoming and clean, and the staff were attentive but relaxed. We will be returning! Thanks. I was a little disappointed that (V) options were listed in the menu but allergens felt more of an after thought and we’re just scribbled on. GFO were limited to dishes that didn’t include gluten but a few freezer staples like gluten free pitta, or gluten free bread would have opened up the rest of the menu to individuals with these dietary requirements.

Food was amazing. Couldn't fault it, however, the service was very slow, the glasses had lipstick marks on the rim, the ladies toilet was disgusting, our celiac friend had nothing to choose from even though we had phoned a day in advance and was told there was a v,vg and gf menu, this was not offered. This is the second time we have been to the pelican, there won't be a third. Food was amazing though.
