The Porch Pour

My aunt and I were visiting my parents from out of town, and they decided to take us here for a Saturday night early dinner. My mom is celiac, and has been here once before, with this aunt--and both times the staff were understanding and did their best to make everything on my mom's plate gluten-free. Our waitress, Tina, was respectful and very informative. She was ready to answer every question and personally went to the kitchen to ensure my mom's dinner was celiac-friendly. Tina also served my mom and aunt on their last visit a year ago, and she remembered them and her allergy! The food was delicious! I had the brisket BLT, where the meat is sliced real thin and fried like bacon; my aunt had the bbq pulled pork sandwich; my dad had the chef's special of the day, meatloaf on mashed potatoes; and my mom got a 6oz sirloin butterflied. Everything was flavorful, even our appetizer of beef bruschetta, was rich, moist, and cooked perfectly to order. The owner, Tawny, also came out and chatted with us. She was happy to see my mom and aunt come back, and told us all about how they get the grass-fed beef from her uncle's farm. We will definitely be coming back.

A very charming Victorian home, decorated immaculately. Service was good with a relaxing & nice vibe during brunch. We enjoyed our brunch, decent selection and many local ingredients which is great. Biscuits were great too. Clearly labeled gluten free options, limited vegetarian but still a few available during brunch at least.

We made anniversary reservations tonight and I was very excited about experiencing a new local place. Sadly disappointed though. My husband asked for a sample of a beer he hadn’t ever tried, the waitress said we don’t give out samples. Ok, fine we get that. My husband orders the $150 ribeye special. Then when I asked about one of the specials being gluten free (I have Celiac) she said the steak was but not the french fries. So I asked if I could substitute a side, she said we don’t substitute specials sides and they could put it on a separate plate and you can order a separate side. That doesn’t make them gluten free for later. The entire 20 mins we were there didn’t leave us feeling like we were eating a local friendly restaurant. We felt like we were at a snobby place found in Frisco. So we walked out and went to Bovine where they are accommodating, friendly and great food.
