The smugglers inn cater for gluten free nicely and identify items on their menu. They also have a dedicated fryer for chips. Our server did get our one food order wrong and we had to wait a while for this to be rectified and this meant that we both ate separately as I'd already gotten my meal and it was going cold. That being said the carvery I had was one of the best I've had, you could tell from the taste that the food was fresh and of high quality. My daughter enjoyed her food too. I've taken one star off just for the service and wait on retifying the food order but I would visit again as the food was excellent.

Visited for a birthday Sunday lunch last weekend. Used to love this place years ago, then it dipped quite considerably in service and quality so I was a bit nervous to try it again. The service, I have to say, was greatly improved. I have to give a shout out to our server Jay who was absolutely amazing. He was efficient and friendly without being over the top, and the witty banter about the lack of clotted cream was wonderful. The food was good, we were incredibly impressed with the range of gluten free choices (although sadly they'd run out of gluten free Yorkshire puddings). Also impressed with the fact that all the accompaniments (roast potato's, stuffing etc) was vegetarian so they really do cater for a wide variety of dietary needs. I would definitely visit again.

Appalling. We had to go to the bar three times to eventually order something that had not run out. We waited an hour, until I was advised that what I had ordered was not gluten-free, after asking twice to confirm it was. I settled on an alternative, only to be presented with a completely different dish 15 minutes later. This was now our fourth meal choice. On leaving there was a brief apology, but that was it. Also of note: There was no staff awareness of how busy they were, as we were offered menus on arriving & then told "just in case we found a table". We found 6 available. There was no real staff awareness of allergies. Our family has frequented the Smugglers for over 50 years, but never again.
