The Tewkesbury Fryer

Went in tonight for two fish and chips. I was nervous before arriving because I needed one gluten free and lactose free which I realise can cause issues but they were beyond lovely about it all - showed me the ingredients list for their gluten free batter so I could be sure it was lactose free. The front of the shop can open because it's large sliding doors so I waited outside in the sunshine and lovely breeze listening to birds and all the different foods being ordered, thinking "oh if I come back maybe I should try that next time". When it was ready they called me up and told me clearly which fish was gluten free. Came home and ate what must be the loveliest fish and chips I've had in a looooong time. I'm currently writing this stuffed because the portion of chips was so big! Partner hasn't had battered fish in years due to his gluten issues and he was so happy to have it again and for it to be as delicious as it was. He's currently sat on the couch in a food-coma. Next time I'm trying your kebabs, they looked gorgeous!

The food is pretty good overall, I deducted one star because they advertise as gluten free and when I went to order 40 mins before closing they said they don't serve gluten free from an hour before closing. That was annoying, but fine. The other star was because when asked why they don't have a sign stating that anywhere the response was "it's been that was for a few years" accompanied by a not-my-problem attitude. Okay... but i don't live in the area, so that's not helpful. The man didn't seem apologetic about it at all, which is a shame because the other staff seem lovely and the food is good.
