We had a fantastic meal at The Walrus and the Carpenter, ordering just about every dish that could be made gluten free, as well as three of each of the six oysters on the menu plus one special. Everything was very good, and some were fantastic, especially the scallops of which we ordered a second dish. Ambiance was great, service was lovely. An unexpected pleasure was a remarkably good Negroni mocktail (also reordered). The dishes were quite a bit smaller than I expected. I wish they would take reservations because the having to wait for ages annoyance is the main thing that would put be off from returning.

Fun spot even for someone new to oysters. The hype around this place is palpable. People line up before opening and as soon as doors do open they’re totally packed. It doesn’t seem like after the initial crush that it stays as busy, but the crowd is mostly parties of friends who want to camp out at a table and relax, so a wait is to be expected. That was just our experience on a weekday though. Oysters were delicious, the wine was great, and the service was awesome. Staff there wasn’t extremely familiar with celiac but still accommodating as we asked about what would be gluten free. For me personally, this place was a fantastic way to start a love affair with oysters.
