Tio Taco + Tequila

Loved the food at Tio! It is a great place for Mexican American food (fajitas, tacos, enchiladas, bowls). They cater to food sensitivities/allergies!!! Their tacos and fajitas are gluten sensitive! You do not get that at most Mexican-American restaurants like South of the Border, Jose Tejas, etc. This makes a whole world of difference for me, as I usually cannot eat at these places and I love the food. My boyfriend had the Chimichanga (OMG best ever) and I had the Churrasco (skirt steak). I will say, though, that I did not love the drinks. My boyfriend had an Old Fashioned which was too sweet. It had more syrup than anything. I had a sangria-rita which ended up being frozen margarita with regular sangria. It was also too sweet and the mix of frozen/not frozen was just not sensible. I thought both would be frozen. This location in Edison NJ has an open-air /semi-outdoor area which is where we sat. It was a beautiful evening. Part of the outdoor-ish area has a long gas fireplace that you can actually feel the heat from. The service was good, our server was friendly, although it seemed like he really wasn't used to people who come to just chill, have a drink first, and not order right away. Overall, if you are looking for good (and allergy sensitive) tacos / fajitas / Mexican-American, definitely go to Tio's. It is the best out of all the other chain Mexican eateries BY FAR.

I'm appalled at the disservice I received today at this establishment. I ordered three tacos because according to their menu, "ALL TACOS SERVED ON FRESH MASA CORN TORTILLAS (GF)". I noticed they served me flour tortillas instead of corn and I should know because I grew up eating and making them. So I take them to the front desk and ask them to make me some with corn tortillas instead. The terrible waitress at the front desk (darker skinned with dark curly hair) assured me that the tortillas were in fact corn tortillas and they just "look and taste like flour" tortillas. I took that at face value and took the tacos back to eat. On the first bite I could tell that they were indeed flour tortillas. Since I am Celiac and can't have gluten, I will be suffering from that bite for the next couple of days. I attached a photo of the tortillas in question to show you what they looked like. No corn tortillas I've ever eaten look, taste, and feel like flour tortillas. Again, a Celiac would know since we have terrible substitutes for flour/gluten containing items like bread. That waitress should be fired and I should get a refund for this terrible service.
