Union Oyster House

The best thing going for Union Oyster House is the historic building. The food was sub par at best. It took quite a long time to get our drinks. Our server was good but had the whole second floor of tables to service while the other server had one very large table. They were definitely short-handed and our server was overwhelmed. The food came out cold, but since it took so long to get it and everyone was starving, they ate it regardless. I am celiac so I specifically asked for a piece of salmon to be prepared in a pan (clean/not shared) and the server gave us reasonable assurance my salmon would not be grilled and would avoid cross contamination. It came out grilled so I couldn’t eat it. She did check with the kitchen who told her the grill was clean. Unfortunately, that’s not how celiac works. I did have a house salad and the server took a photo of the dressing label so I could check for gluten (very helpful!). It was safe so I could eat that. We ate all over Boston and this was the only restaurant that didn’t accommodate correctly. For the price, I can’t recommend Union Oyster House.

Not many gf options… Ended up getting the mixed greens salad and the dressings aren’t gluten free so had oil and balsamic vinegar.

Absolutely phenomenal meal!! The atmosphere is spectacular, authentic vintage 1820 restaurant in a 1740 building; absolutely beautiful and so historical especially seeing JFK's favorite booth! The service was wonderful, we really enjoyed Stephanie Toppi, she is probably the best waitress we've ever spent time dining with .. honest, kind, really fun and she did an great job; thank you Stephanie, you really made our night! The food was out of this world!! Raw oysters, blackened scallops, seafood platter, clam chowder, baked stuffed clams .. everything was fresh and delicious and I can't wait to come back! Also my bloody Mary was excellent. Lots of gluten free options.
