Overall Thoughts: The quintessential spot for vegan Asian fusion food— from Chinese to Thai to Japanese to Vietnamese (with some Caribbean & Mexican too). The menu is massive, perfect for sharing with groups large and small, and the prices are good and reasonable. The service was quick and attentive, and the restaurant itself is spacious and comfortable. There’s a free parking lot nearby too. All the dishes— even the vegetables— were less flavorful than traditional Asian restaurant food, but they still tasted good. Overall, you can’t go wrong with Veggie Heaven if you’re looking for a diverse variety of vegan Asian food.
Food I tried:
- Eggplant with Garlic Sauce (4/5): This dish is a lot less flavorful than those in traditional Chinese restaurants (likely due to the lack of MSG), but it was still pretty good, with a distinct Chinese flair.
- Vegetable Peking Duck (4/5): The mock duck was quite good and well-made; the texture was nice and stringy and pretty meat-like. It’s not exactly similar to traditional “mock duck” as the traditional one is made from wheat gluten, and this one is gluten-free. The dish also came with flour tortillas instead of traditional bao buns for wrapping, which still tasted good but was lighter and less filling.
- Assorted Steamed Dim Sum (3.9/5): These were pretty good; I enjoyed the different skins of each one. The inside filling of the “shumai” was mostly seasoned rice, while the dumpling fillings were all of the same veggies. It would’ve been nice to have some more diverse fillings, or some mock meats as fillings.
