Wagon Wheel Restaurant

Exhausted from a full day of driving, we were looking for an on-theme place for dinner during our Route 66 roadtrip stop in Needles and this was it. There was something for everyone and my gluten-free husband was happy to enjoy the liver and onions. Lots of great Route 66 memorabilia everywhere. This is probably where we’d eat if we drove back through Needles.

This restaurant was just across the street from the motel where we were staying, but we decided to see what else was around that would give our family the gluten-free options that a couple of members need. The motel clerk warned us that there were slim pickings right now. That seemed to be confirmed by Yelp! as well. We even drove across the river to scope out the restaurant at the casino, but that was a no-go as well. So this Wagon Wheel became the choice by default. We probably could have done far worse. The restaurant has a lot of Route 66 kitsch within, and some Route 66 history of it's own. There were plenty of food choices, and our server had no problem handling a few changes for dietary choices. The meals were ample and delicious. We spent a few dollars in the gift shop, too. In summary, it wasn't what we were looking for, but it was pretty decent, anyway.
