Shockingly bad. I have never been served such disgusting rice.
I ordered the poke bowl and the toppings were quite good -- flavorful fish and ripe mango -- but when I dug deeper I found the rice was rancid. One time I forgot rice in my rice cooker for several days unrefrigerated. The spoiled rice I discovered had an unforgettable smell and texture that I have thankfully never encountered again... until now. In a restaurant. It's not hard to make rice. It should be made fresh daily. It's inexcusable to serve rice like that to customers. I literally can think of no other reason for it to taste like that aside from being old and poorly stored.
I've been here a couple times before and had been impressed with the food and gluten free options so this was extremely disappointing. I want to give the benefit of the doubt and say maybe it was an off night... but even on off nights there needs to be quality control. This place unfortunately seems to be going the way of many established restaurants with good reputations -- becoming lax with quality and customer service. Even being greeted at the entrance felt unprofessional because the "hosts" were two young men that barely noticed we'd come in and then spent the rest of the night leaning on the podium (or whatever that stand is at the entrance to restaurants) scrolling on their phones. I don't have high standards for customer service, I understand people make mistakes, some people have a hard time smiling through an unpleasant job, or whatever else may reasonably prevent someone from being polite. But I've literally never seen such visible disregard for job duties in a restaurant setting.
This is supposed to be a relatively nice place. It used to be a treat to come here, but I won't be going back any time soon.
