My family will never forget our experience dining here but unfortunately not in a good way. We selected this restaurant because we had 2 vegans in our party and beyond the amazing reviews the website says "Dinner Special Menu Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free", so we thought this would be a great choice. Based on our experience, either that line on the website (which is also on the print menus) needs to be taken off or the staff needs more training. The restaurant had live music the night we were there and while the performer was wonderful we were in the same room as the performer and it was way too loud. We had to shout at each other over the table the whole time. When multiple people from the same group independently take videos to show how loud the music was, you know it was too loud. When our waitress came over we asked first thing if there was a vegan friendly version of the menu. She did not seem to know what we were talking about so we asked if we could just ask her about which items were vegan and she said she would have to go to the kitchen to ask them about each item. We took some time to look over the menus and when the waitress came back one of our vegans said they would be getting a selection of the sides. We then went through an awkward process where we would ask if a side was vegan and the waitress would go to the kitchen, then come back and say no, then we would ask about a different side and the waitress would go back to the kitchen to ask and come back. We repeated this process a few times and it probably would have saved time if the waitress had asked the kitchen to identify any vegan friendly items all at once so she could answer questions about all the sides. The bean of the day was black beans and even though the menu specifically says "seasoned with plant goodness", the kitchen told the waitress that sometimes the beans have chicken stock in them and they could not say for sure about today's beans, so no beans for our vegans. The second vegan in our party asked about one of the pasta dishes and the waitress worked with him to make it vegan friendly. Ordering done. Salads come. The salads were small and sad looking and one of the salads served to a vegan in our party still had the Parmesan cheese which was surprising given we had spent a lot of time at this point talking about vegan friendly food with the waitress. She took it back and got another. Salads done. Food comes. One of the meat eaters in our party had ordered the shrimp and grits plate. His plate was placed down first and he dug in immediately only for the waitress to come running back to the table to say it was not his plate, it was intended for someone at another table but he said he had already eaten some so she left it. When she brought the other plates out he said to the waitress he was fine to keep that plate, as in even though it wasn't exactly what he ordered he didn't want the food to go to waste. The waitress then said "I wasn't going to take it away from you" which was an odd choice in our opinion. I would have expected something more along the lines of an apology for getting it mixed up in the first place. The waitress came to check on us at one point and asked if everything was okay and I had to hold back laughter because the experience was comical. I got the tomato pie and it was very good, so at least there is that. Our meal here was a total let down which was really disappointing considering how excited our vegan group members were to dine here. I hope either the restaurant trains their staff more on the menu items and which can accommodate different diets or takes those lines off their materials.
