Visited the “speakeasy,” Roja. The live music was fantastic, but it is a restaurant, not a speakeasy or bar. If you want to go for drinks only, you must stand at one of four standing tables or get lucky to get one of six bar seats. Chairs are for those eating, and our server required us to order from the upstairs menu (dLeña) rather than just the “bites” menu. If you read their website, like us, you wouldn’t be aware of this policy. We begrudgingly ordered dLeña’s gelato so that we could sit, which lowered our allotted seating time from 90 minutes to 60. The gelato was one of the only items we could eat given my partner’s gluten allergy; but when it arrived, the ice cream sat atop a pile of crushed cookies despite the “gluten free” label. Those with allergies should be careful about the misleading labeling here. We would have loved to stay, enjoy the music, and order more drinks, but our server presented us the check and asked us to leave (like the many other drinks-only guests who tried to sit at the table beside us but were also told to leave). The cocktails were good, but nothing special.
