Nature preserve features well-worn forest trails with surfaces of compacted dirt and wood chippings. The atmosphere is peaceful with thick tree cover near swampy areas, where mosquitoes may appear. Visitors often bring dogs on leash and wear sneakers for easy to slightly challenging walks.

The parking lot is small with limited space but was not busy during my visit.

Dogs are allowed on leash throughout the preserve.

Expect mosquitoes in the Shu Swamp area; bug spray is recommended.
