This is a great spot in La Eixample! We were drawn in by the charming decor and proximity to our hotel, but the food was so good and the service so friendly we’ve returned multiple times over multiple visits to Barcelona. They have options for omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans, as well as labeling for allergens like gluten. The staff happily converse in English or Spanish (probably other languages as well) and they’re very warm and friendly. Highly recommend!

The space is spacious and bright, with architectural details that make it unique, and is perfect for both group meals and a special occasion. The menu is varied, featuring Spanish and Catalan dishes, and there are vegetarian and gluten-free options.
As an area for improvement, being such a popular and central location, it tends to be quite busy, and during peak hours there can be a wait to be seated. Some dishes can be somewhat expensive for the quantity or quality offered, and the service, while good, sometimes suffers due to the number of customers. Even so, if you're looking for an iconic spot where you can try different culinary offerings in a spectacular setting, El Nacional is a highly recommended option for a unique experience in Barcelona.
