What a surprise! The grits are so good and creamy! Yum! I had eggs, smoked salmon with dill and cream cheese. I’m gluten free but my husband said the biscuits were so light and fluffy… he ate mine! Will visit again since there were so many good options on the menu.

I had the warm pleasure of dining at South Kitchen + Bar in downtown Athens after receiving my master’s degree from the University of Georgia, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, everything about the evening was perfect, thanks in large part to our outstanding server, Erin Wilson.
Erin made our party of eight feel special and well-cared for throughout the night. She struck the perfect balance of professionalism and personality, making us laugh while seamlessly managing our large group. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive—she recommended the best drinks, expertly guided us through gluten-free options for a couple of guests, and ensured we never went without refills. Even though there was a large event happening in another room, her attentiveness never wavered.
The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with a warm, clean, and inviting atmosphere. It was the perfect spot for such a special occasion. I was fortunate to snag a reservation after another party canceled, and it felt like fate. Who wouldn’t want to dine there after becoming a UGA alumni!
South Kitchen + Bar exceeded all expectations, and Erin Wilson elevated the experience even further. If you’re looking for incredible service, a stunning environment, and top-notch food and drink in Athens, I can’t recommend this place enough. They have gluten free pancakes that are so yummy and they have gluten free brioche buns for burgers and gluten free bread for blts! So many options for the gluten free person here!
Super easy to eat gluten and dairy free here. I have a pretty severe allergy to casein and the staff is really good at making sure my food is not contaminated with cheese, even opening a fresh container when needed. I really appreciate that.
They advertise gluten free bowls, but then put their contaminated gloves into the bins to retrieve toppings. If you have Celiac or a Wheat allergy do not eat here.

Great service from Teresa as we celebrated our anniversary! The menu had more gluten free options than most which delighted us. The cornbread with its honey butter and the peach butter from my pork chop is delightful. Chef's kiss!

Austin was incredible!! My chicken was great and funny enough reminded me of Punta Cana which I read have the same owners. Make the chicken and grilled veggies like Punta and you’re on the money. The mashed potatoes need salt, as did my husband’s steak. No noted gluten free like Punta. GF rolls would be amazing! The ice cream and turtle cheesecake are delish! Music is a bit loud but overall it’s a nice atmosphere.
They were easily able to accommodate my allergies to gluten and dairy and I had an excellent breakfast of a skillet with potatoes (requested them to be cooked in oil and not butter), bacon, mushrooms, avocado, and poached eggs with gluten free toast on the side. And I had a cup of apple cinnamon tea with almond milk in it. They do not offer a non-dairy creamer option, only almond milk or soy milk so I had tea instead of coffee.
