I cannot say enough great things about Sweet Treat without Wheat! I had the pleasure of trying their cinnamon sugar donuts, and they were absolutely delicious—soft, flavorful, and perfectly sweet without being too heavy. You’d never guess they’re gluten-free!
What made the experience even more special was the incredible generosity of the owner. Despite the bakery being located in Iowa, she went above and beyond to get the donuts to me all the way in Aruba.
If you’re looking for amazing gluten-free treats made with love, this is the place to go. I can’t wait to try more of their baked goods!
Creative flavors and mind-blowing mochi donuts make this spot a must-visit for sweet surprises, especially during special occasions!

Crème has been amazing since the new owner came along. I’m gluten free and they always have fun options for us. I stop in a lot to get cupcakes for my own salon clients when I know they’re coming in near their birthday and I always grab cupcakes to take to my veterinary office as a thank you for always getting me in last minute. How can anyone be anything but excited to see you when you come walking in with cats in a carrier and half a dozen cupcakes from Crème in hand?! I love the creative flavors they’re bringing to DSM. Lastly… the thing that made me a super fan (and I’d like to see more of) are the mochi donuts! They are mind blowing! I am obsessed with them! The staff are always kind and helpful, the shop is clean and welcoming. But I really love having Crème around to surprise someone with!

I have been here several times recently for brunch. This place knows what they are doing and they are really good at it: the atmosphere, the decor, the food, the service. The lattes here are the best in the area, hands down. Even the cups and saucers are beautiful and add to my enjoyment of the coffee drinks. I want the exact cups for my own home. The seasonal latte flavors are creative and never overly sweet. I do love a pumpkin spice latte, and St. Kilda has the best. I was interested in a seasonal mocha and was hesitant to order it for fear it would be too sweet, but the server told me more about it so I decided to try it. It was the best mocha I’ve ever had with the perfect balance of flavors and just the right amount of sweetness. Everything that’s a part of the Big Aussie Breakfast is prepared to perfection: thick cut bacon, delicious blistered roasted tomatoes, perfectly crispy house-made bread. Even the gluten-free bread is excellent. Last week my boyfriend got a hashbrown on the side and it was the best hashbrown I’ve ever had - a lovely soft texture on the inside and perfectly crispy all the way around on the outside. The last 3 times I’ve eaten there, we’ve had the same server. I love her! Very friendly, relatable, and a bit quirky in the best possible way. After our last visit, I decided St. Kilda in Valley Junction is my favorite place for brunch.

I would give it 5 stars on food if there were more gluten-free options, especially in the bakery portion. But for non-gluten sensitive people, their baked goods are amazing!! Cinnamon rolls were my favorite when I could eat them. A big thank you to the staff for sharing that even the gluten-free monster cookies are cross-contaminated. All around, great coffee shop.
A lively grocer with a fantastic selection of organic goodies and a Starbucks right inside, plus some interesting characters at the entrance.

Hy-Vee is a great grocer overall. The South Side Des Moines location has its perks... Starbucks, huge gluten free, organic, etc section. Riff Raff can catch you at the door sometimes..... Keep walking.
I was there just to have a place to wait for a ride home after my car was towed to a garage. I don't eat gluten, so no donuts for me. I ordered a coffee and fried potatoes. The potatoes were not very good, but the coffee was. I was there for over 3 hrs. I drank a lot of coffee and chai. The girls behind the counter were so gracious and concerned. I received service beyond expectations and in a very clean dining area an bathroom. The donuts and menu did look very, very, very good!
If you like Frozen Yogurt then there's no way to go wrong with this place. Never had a problem here. Staff are usually quite friendly and helpful. Great FroYo with plenty of info for those who have food allergies / gluten free etc. Seasonal flavors too.
With a decent selection and quirky item placements, it’s a mixed bag that surprises and frustrates in equal measure.

HyVee is generally reliable, but they have a tendency to raise prices and then put items on sale shortly after, which feels a bit like a tactic to draw in customers. Their selection is pretty good overall, but the organic fruits, vegetables, and cheese offerings leave much to be desired. We’ve had several instances where produce went moldy within a day or two, or even came home already spoiled.
One positive feature is their policy of giving you the item for free if there's a pricing error, even if it’s just a cent. I’d heard they discontinued this, but a manager recently told me it’s now up to their discretion. On the bright side, they offer a great selection of gluten-free products, which I really appreciate.
However, some of their choices are puzzling—like placing San Pellegrino waters and Spindrifts in the health section. While Spindrift is fairly healthy since it’s made with real fruit sugar, San Pellegrino contains known chemicals, which doesn’t quite fit-move them to the seltzer water section and put it on the top shelf. Just something to keep in mind!

I haven’t shopped in a Wal Mart for years but they had the gluten free noodles I needed for my niece so I had to go. I struggled to find the noodles in the Super Center but Bim made eye contact with me and offered assistance! I had the noodles in no time at all.
The store was clean and several staff smiled and asked if I needed help as I wandered around and picked up some other staples. I’ll go back soon!
