Madi was an amazing server!! Super prompt and respectful. Amazing experience. I have celiac disease and she was so understanding of my allergy. She made sure the cooks could make my food gluten free and made me feel very comfortable with my situation. Ps. GET THE BRUSSELS!!!!! The best Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had. I have a gluten allergy and yesterday I decided to get dinner at Pub 500. I called the restaurant ahead of time to confirm gluten-free options and procedures. The person I talked to was very polite and answered all my questions. When I got there, I talked to the server about my restrictions for cross-contamination and she was extremely nice and asked the kitchen directly about the specific things I asked her about. Fryers are a big cross-contamination point, so I stressed I could not have anything from the fryers and she assured me the side I picked, chips, would be safe.
My order came out, and the food was delicious, but after eating a few chips, I started to realize they tasted hot and oily. When I asked to confirm they were not from the fryer they sent someone else to tell me, it was indeed a fried item. When I tried to express the cross-contamination importance I was met with a response about the type of oil they used which had nothing to do with it. My entire plate was contaminated, so I asked them to remake it with a different side.
The rest of the meal was great, but I was disappointed to see nothing was comped on the bill, and I even had an up-charge for the replacement side I got.
I completely understand that people make mistakes and things happen, but when you work in the food industry it's important to be aware of common food allergies as well as the food you're serving. I would've liked to see more accountability from the people who I explained my situation to especially because I had said specifically what my restrictions were.
